Respironics DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM

Respironics DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM

When it comes to your sleep therapy device you want something that is inconspicuous and is loaded with the necessary features to effectively treat your sleep apnea.

The latest sleep therapy device to come from Philips Respironics will do just that. The DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM not only offers the basic features of a typical BiPAP machine, but it also offers the advanced capabilities that Respironics has become known for.

Bi-Flex Pressure Relief

A common problem many patients experience is that they find it difficult to exhale against the positive airway pressure that is delivered during sleep therapy treatment.

This problem is minimized with the DreamStation’s Bi-Flex pressure relief feature. Which provides pressure relief during the transition from exhalation to inhalation, inhalation to exhalation, and during exhalation.

You may adjust the Bi-Flex setting in 0.5 increments up to 1.5 cm H20. A setting of 0.5 will provide a reduced amount of pressure relief, while the higher settings provide further relief.

The Flex setting can be adjusted through the “My Setup” screen on your DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM machine.

Adjustable Ramp

Instead of just jumping right to your prescribed sleep therapy pressure setting at the beginning of treatment.

The adjustable ramp setting on the DreamStation enables the machine to gradually increase the delivery of pressure until your prescribed pressure setting is obtained. The reduced delivery of pressure will help you to fall asleep more quickly and comfortably.

The DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM machine features two ramp modes, standard and SmartRamp. Standard ramp mode will gradually increase the delivery of pressure at a steady rate.

While SmartRamp mode will maintain a constant lower pressure until the DreamStation detects that you require additional pressure.

To help you ensure that the ramp feature is working, once your press the “ramp” button on the DreamStation the screen will change to reflect the changing Ramp pressure. A green circle will fill to reflect the gradual increase in pressure.

Optional Heated Tube and Heated Humidifier

The optional heated tube and humidifier will not only increase the quality of your sleep therapy, but also your sleep therapy compliance.

A common side effect of sleep therapy is dry nose, throat, and mouth that can lead to painful cracking and nose bleeds.

If you have experienced this in the past you know just how annoying and painful this is, it may even be the reason for you avoiding sleep therapy in all.

Painful nasal, throat, and mouth dryness is greatly minimized with the use of the heated humidifier. Which is obtained by adding moisture and heat to therapy air based off of the patient adjustable temperature settings that range from 0 to 5.

When using the optional heated tube in congruence with the heated humidifier, you will be able to control the provided humidity more accurately.

The heated tube offers patient adjustable temperature settings (0-5) that maintain the temperature of the delivered air from device to mask.

By protecting the air from cooling while being delivered, the heated tube also reduces the occurrence of rainout.

Which occurs when the environmental temperature is cooler than that of the therapy air, leading to condensation buildup in the tube and mask.

Dry Box Technology

You may be afraid to use a humidifier due to the fear of the water tank dripping into and damaging the DreamStation’s electrical components.

This fear is silenced thanks to Respironics’ dry box technology. In the event that water does manage to escape the humidifier’s water tank, the dry box will act like a reservoir and stop the flow of water from entering the rest of the machine. Saving you stress and money.

Preheat the Humidifier

If you opt to use the heated humidifier you will be able to enjoy the benefit of preheating the humidifier’s water tank for up to 30 minutes prior to beginning sleep therapy.

The preheat feature can be accessed through the main menu using the control dial. Use the dial and press down to select “on” or “off”.

When preheat is enabled, the icon will illuminate orange. This preheat option will only appear when the DreamStation humidifier is attached.

Humidification Modes

Another benefit the DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM provides for patients that use the heated humidifier is the ability to select between two humidification modes.

Fixed humidification mode allows you to preset your desired humidity setting to maintain that level throughout the night.

While “Adaptive” mode will enable the DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM to monitor ambient temperature and humidity levels. Allowing the heating levels to be automatically adjusted as needed.

When using the heated tube, the DreamStation will automatically switch into Heated Tube Humidification Mode.

The device will stay in this mode as long as you are using the heated tube. Both the humidifier and tube temperature may still be adjusted as normal.

Performance Check

The DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM is equipped with the self-diagnostic tool called “Performance Check.”

This therapy improving tool allows the device to evaluate for certain therapy impacting errors. Which can be used to share with your doctor to make improvements to your sleep therapy treatment.

At the end of the performance check scan, your DreamStation screen will display a green checkmark when no issues are detected. If an issue(s) was detected, the screen will display a red “X”.

Check the Fitting of Your Mask

Ensure that your mask is fitted properly prior to beginning therapy with the “Check Mask Fit” feature. This is achieved by measuring the amount of leak in the mask.

To initiate, simply put your fully assembled mask on, use the control dial to navigate to and select the Check Mask Fit screen found under “My Setup”.

Once begun, the DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM will deliver a test pressure while the screen counts down from 40 seconds. A green bar will indicate a good fit, while a red bar signals that improvement is needed.

After the test has concluded, your DreamStation’s screen will display either a green checkmark or a red “X”. A green checkmark means that the monitored leak delivers optimal device performance.

If you receive a red “X” it means the leak may affect the performance of your device, however it will still remain functional.

Bluetooth Wireless Technology

Thanks to the advancements of Bluetooth Wireless technology, you are able to connect your DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM to a mobile device with the DreamMapper (SleepMapper) app installed.

DreamMapper (SleepMapper) is a mobile and web-based system that helps sleep apnea patients improve their sleep therapy experience by allowing them to track the progress of their sleep therapy.

Pairing the DreamStation to a Phone or Tablet:

Step 1: Make Sure the Bluetooth Setting is Enabled on Your Phone or Tablet
Step 2: Select the DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM from the Bluetooth Screen. The Device will appear as “PR BT XXXX”. XXXX will be the Last Four Digits of Your Device’s Serial Number
Step 3: Turn the Machine On but Leave the Blower Off and Initiate Pairing from Your Mobile Device
Step 4: Once the DreamStation is in Range of Your Mobile Device, One of the Following will Apply:

  • Your Mobile Device has Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing (SSP)
  • Your Mobile Device does not Support Bluetooth SSP

Secure Simple Pairing: If your mobile device features SSP, then a Bluetooth icon with a six digit number with “Pair?” will appear on the screen of your DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM.

The six digit number that appears is a passkey that is automatically generated during SSP. Verify that the six digit passkey matches on your mobile device and the DreamStation.

If they match use the control dial to select between “yes” or “no” and press down to select. If yes is selected, the DreamStation will acknowledge the request.

Then once your mobile device acknowledges the request they will now be paired and ready to connect using DreamMapper.

Your Mobile Device does not Support Bluetooth SSP: When your mobile device does not feature SSP then you will be prompted to enter a four digit pin code into the device. Simply enter “1008”.

Which will then trigger a popup with a Bluetooth icon, the number “001008” and “Pair?” on your DreamStation’s screen. Use the control dial to navigate between “yes” or “no”.

Once “yes” is selected, the DreamStation will acknowledge the 001008 passkey. Once your mobile device accepts the pair, both devices will now be paired and ready to connect using DreamMapper.

System One Resistance Control

Through the My Setup screen you are able to access the Mask Type setting. The Mask Type setting allows you to adjust the level of air pressure relief according to the specific Respironics mask being used. Each Respiroincs CPAP/BiPAP mask features a System One resistance control setting.

Traveling Simplified

Thanks to the included carrying case you can travel with ease and little worry.

The carrying case is large enough to fit the DreamStation BiPAP Pro DOM machine, the heated humidifier, tubing, and mask.

While traveling the carrying case will protect the device and its components from damage. Just make sure to travel with the carrying case in your carry-on luggage.

If traveling with a heated humidifier, be sure to empty out the water chamber before traveling.
