Respironics DreamStation CPAP Machine
After extensive research and development, Respironics listened to the needs of sleep apnea patients to bring you the DreamStation CPAP machine.
This device offers all the amenities that Respironics is known for. Some exciting features include an adjustable ramp, FLEX pressure relief, optional heated humidifier attachment, adjustable humidifier settings, Bluetooth wireless technology, an easy to read and operate user interface, plus some exciting new features!
If you are a sleep apnea patient that wants the lightest and smallest treatment device possible, the DreamStation CPAP machine is 18% smaller and 28% lighter than the system one machines.
Which allows the device to take up less space on your nightstand and making it even easier to travel with.
The ramp feature can be enabled or disabled by you or your doctor. This therapy enhancing feature will reduce the air pressure at the beginning of therapy while trying to fall asleep, then will gradually increase (ramp) the pressure until your prescription setting is achieved.
The DreamStation has two ramp modes, standard ramp mode, and SmartRamp mode. When using standard ramp mode the device will steadily increase the pressure.
While SmartRamp mode will maintain a constant lower pressure until the device detects the need for increased pressure. The reduction in pressure at the beginning of treatment will help you fall asleep more easily and comfortably.
When pressing the ramp button, the device’s screen will change to reflect the desired ramp pressure. A green circle will gradually fill to demonstrate the increasing pressure. The ramp button can be used as many times as you would like throughout the night.
FLEX Pressure Relief
Do you find it difficult at times to exhale against the positive airway pressure that is being delivered during your sleep therapy treatment?
To help the DreamStation CPAP device comes equipped with FLEX pressure relief, which allows you to adjust the level of air pressure relief you experience while exhaling. This feature may be enabled or disabled by home care providers.
FLEX pressure relief settings range from 1 to 3. When using a FLEX setting of 1 you will experience the least amount of pressure relief, while higher numbers offer greater relief.
Optional Heated Humidifier and Tubing
The DreamStation CPAP machine does not include a heated tube or humidifier, however using them in congruence with your CPAP machine will increase your comfort and compliance.
The continuous delivery of air during therapy can cause dryness in your nose, mouth, and throat.
But with the addition of a heated humidifier, the air being delivered will become heated and moisturized based off of user-adjustable temperature settings to help minimize dryness and nose bleeds.
The heated tube is not required to be used with the DreamStation humidifier, but will further enhance its effectiveness and help prevent rainout from the use of a humidifier.
Rainout occurs when the ambient temperature of the room you are in, is colder than the air traveling through your CPAP hose. Causing an excess buildup of condensation in the mask and tubing.
Using the heated tube with the humidifier will ensure that the delivery of air does not cool before reaching your mask, as you are able to adjust the individual temperature of the tubing.
If your doctor requires you to have a higher temperature setting on your humidifier, the heated hose is recommended.
Preheat the Humidifier
When using the additional cost heated humidifier, the DreamStation offers a new preheat feature. This will allow for you to preheat the water tank in the humidifier for up to 30 minutes before beginning sleep therapy.
This can quickly be enabled or disabled through the control panel’s home screen in seconds.
To help remind you whether the preheat feature is turned on or off, the preheat icon on the main menu will illuminate orange when enabled and turn grey when disabled.
Make sure that your device is in proper working order at all times thanks a self-diagnostic tool called Performance Check. This will allow your machine to be able to evaluate for certain treatment impacting errors.
Use the Performance Check when instructed by your doctor to make sure things are running as they should.
Once the check is completed, your device’s screen will either display a green checkmark to show there are no issues, or a red “X” if there are issues. If you receive a red “X” you should contact your doctor for further assistance.
Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Sleep therapy treatment has evolved with emerging technology to deliver more personalized and effective treatments.
The DreamStation CPAP device minimizes the effort required to view and examine sleep therapy data with your doctor thanks to having Bluetooth technology.
The Bluetooth technology will allow you to pair the DreamStation CPAP machine to a mobile device that already has the SleepMapper (DreamMapper) app installed.
SleepMapper (DreamMapper) is a web-based and mobile application that is engineered to help you enhance your sleep therapy experience.
How to Pair the DreamStation to Your Phone or Tablet:
Step 1: Make Sure the Bluetooth Setting is Enabled on Your Phone or Tablet.
Step 2: The DreamStaion CPAP Device will appear as “PR BT XXXX” on the Bluetooth Screen of Your Device.
Step 3: Turn the CPAP Device On, Leaving the Blower Off, Initiate Pairing from Your Mobile Device.
Step 4: When Your Mobile Device is in Range of the DreamStation One of the following will apply:
- Your Phone or Tablet has Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing (SSP)
- Your Phone or Tablet does not Support Bluetooth SSP
Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): Allows for your Bluetooth enabled phone or tablet to automatically connect to your DreamStation sleep therapy machine.
If you have a secure simple pairing device (SSP), a Bluetooth icon will appear on the DreamStation screen with a 6 digit number and “Pair?” The six-digit passkey is an automatically generated number during SSP. Verify that the passkey on your mobile device matches the one on your sleep therapy device.
Use the control wheel to navigate between “yes” or “no”. If they match, press the control dial to choose “yes” and the DreamStation CPAP will acknowledge the passkey.
Once your phone or tablet also acknowledges the pairing request, the two will officially be paired and ready to connect using DreamMapper (SleepMapper).
- Download the DreamMapper (SleepMapper) App for Apple
- Download the DreamMapper (SleepMapper) App for Android
Your Mobile Device does not Support Bluetooth SSP: Your phone or tablet will ask you to enter a pin code. Simply enter “1008” on your mobile device.
Next, a Bluetooth icon will appear on your DreamStation’s screen with the number “001008” and “Pair?” Again rotate the control wheel between “yes” or “no” and press down to select.
Once selecting yes, the CPAP device will acknowledge the passkey. Once your mobile device acknowledges the request, they will now be paired and ready to connect using DreamMapper (SleepMapper).
Check the Fit of Your Mask
If needed, this feature can either be enabled or disabled by home care providers. This treatment enhancing feature allows you to check the fit and effectiveness of your mask before beginning sleep therapy. Which is done by measuring the amount of leak the mask allows.
The DreamStation CPAP machine will deliver a test pressure while the easy to read screen counts down from 40 seconds. Pay attention to the device’s screen, a green bar indicates there is a good fit while a red bar indicates the need for improvement.
After the test concludes normal therapy will automatically begin with the screen displaying a green checkmark or a red “X”.
The green checkmark means that the registered leak amount won’t impact the performance of your CPAP device. While the red “X” indicates that the registered leak may harbor device performance.
If the mask fit check results in a red “X”, the device will still function and deliver sleep therapy.
Protection While Traveling
Traveling is enough of a hassle, reduce your worries while traveling with an included carrying case for the DreamStation CPAP machine.
The carrying case will protect your CPAP and even the humidifier during travels, just make sure to store the carrying case in your carry-on luggage. If applicable, make sure to dump out the water tank before traveling with the humidifier.
The DreamStation sleep therapy machine comes with an SD card pre-installed on the side of the device. The SD card will record and store various sleep therapy data, allowing it to be later analyzed by your doctor.
